Mark Fohl & Roberta Kayne - Dresden photo judging and Lensbaby Photography
* First, member Roberta Kayne will give us an overview of Lensbaby photography and lenses. She uses many of these lenses and her presentation will show examples of the magical photos you can create with soft, glowy effects from the Lensbaby products.
Roberta Kayne is an award winning photographer and has been taking photos for over 30 years as “a form of therapy and a way to heal the past and focus on the present.” When she is concentrating on taking pictures, the world fades away, and the only thing that exists is the subject of her photos. Roberta is a breast cancer survivor and now appreciates every day she is alive to share the beauty of the world, one photo at a time.
Roberta tries to capture her love for not only the smallest details that surround us, such as the sparkle of dew on a leaf after a rain or the minute detail inside a flower, but also the bigger picture of grand landscapes. Many of Roberta's photographs are from the 25 plus countries she has traveled to, and some are taken in and around her home base of Dublin, Ohio. Her main interests in photography are macro close ups of tiny life, like insects and flowers; impressionist and artistic interpretations of subjects; wide angle views of landscapes; and photos of the culture and people of the country she is visiting.
Roberta’s photos are reflections of how she sees the world and expressions of the feelings in her heart and soul. For more: https://www.robertakaynephotography.com/
** Then member Mark Fohl will conduct our judging of the prints from photo exchange with the Dresden, Germany photo club. We need your input and votes for this, and hope you plan on attending. Everyone can & should participate, even if you did not submit one of your photos for the exchange in the fall.
Mark spent some time in Dresden, Germany in 2005, and met some members of the Fotoklub Exakta. The members and Mark agreed to an exchange of photographs (prints, not just websites) and the first exchange was in 2006. The idea was to show the Westbridge prints to Fotoklub Exakta and some other clubs in the Dresden area, and to show the Fotoklub Exakta prints to Westbridge members and members of other clubs in and near Columbus. To make the exchange more interesting, the prints were to be “judged” by the respective camera clubs. The judging involves each member assigning a numerical score, from 1 to 9, to each of the photos. Scores are tallied, for each club, and totally, and awards are given to the highest scores at the end of the exchange. The exchanges have taken place in the even years since 2006. The last judging was in 2018, and of course there was no exchange during the pandemic.
The interesting aspect of this is that the photos are of different cultures. Different approaches can be seen in the German (European) prints and the American prints. Technically, the prints are about equal. All the latest gadgets and software that we have in the U.S. are also available in Germany. But you will see that they are applied slightly differently.
Dresden is one of the 13 sister cities of Columbus. The relationship began in 1992, shortly after the fall of the Berlin Wall and the reunification of East and West Germany.
Below are previous first place winners: from Dresden "Bee" by Albrecht Kaltenbach, and from Westbridge "The Crossing" by Libby Rosen.
