Art History with Claire Wiedman Early Landscape Photography and the American National Parks Feb 24

Friday, February 24
4:30pm - 5:30pm
at the Tremont Rd Library Friends Theater

Landscape photography, specifically of the American West, played an important role in the creation of our National Parks.

Photographers like Carleton Watkins, Timothy O'Sullivan and Alexander Gardner turned their skills as Civil War photographers onto the rugged and untamed wilderness of Yosemite, Yellowstone, and other iconic vistas. This talk will cover the earliest history of landscape photography and its usage as an instrument in the creation of the National Park system.
